For more than two decades, Bucharest-based artist SLAPPER has been shaping an electronic world where nostalgia and forward-thinking production melt into an exciting sonic cocktail. The project of Claudiu-Gabriel Tache, SLAPPER has explored a range of dance music through a fascination with melody, atmosphere and cinematic storytelling, creating records that have captured the attention of listeners around the world. Through his musical output, he seeks to connect the emotional impact of electronic music with a retro-futurist vision, a mission that’s firmly planted him on the map of must watch artists.
His artistic adventure began during the late 90s when Eastern Europe’s electronic music culture was rapidly expanding and as club scenes flourished across the region, Bucharest became both a creative home and a testing ground for Claudiu-Gabriel’s ideas. Immersed in a nightlife defined by experimentation and possibility, he developed a style that blended synth pop, melodic techno and trance while keeping rhythm and energy at the heart of his sound.
As his profile continued to grow, opportunities soon followed beyond the city’s club circuit and by 2008, SLAPPER was performing before legendary synth pop pioneers Alphaville at Arenele Romane, before later playing alongside De/Vision at Silver Church in 2010. Following an extended six-year creative hiatus, SLAPPER returned in late 2023 with Music Box Memories, an album that embraced the glowing aesthetics of synthwave while remaining attached to the cinematic stylings that had always shaped the project.
Momentum continued with Mirrors, an LP that expanded the emotional range of the project through reflections on love, anxiety and depression. Bright melodies and infectious electronic grooves became vehicles for personal themes, showing that dance music could remain emotionally compelling while keeping a sense of movement. After a series of well-received singles throughout this year, SLAPPER now returns with perhaps his clearest celebration of the dancefloor in recent years.

His new single titled “Imagination” marks a shift towards a more club-focused sound while remaining connected to the artistic identity built over decades. Inspired by the uplifting energy of classic 90s dance music, “Imagination” captures the communal spirit that first drew so many listeners to electronic music and the new track channels movement, connection and shared experience, creating something designed for euphoric late-night moments. “Imagination” also represents the first SLAPPER release in two years to incorporate vocal samples, introducing another facet of melodic flair to the production.
Gently drifting into focus with the swell of synth layers, the steady pulse of kick and buzz of instrumentation forms an immersive scene while a vocal sample ushers in a slick drop to set up the crisp snap of the beat. The stutter of flickering synth elements and smokey vocal sample tones softly swirl as new melodic ideas intricately appear throughout, resulting in an enthralling dance music experience that’s enveloping, invigorating and highly original all at once.
With delicate ebb and flow, the arrangement brings a sense of rise and fall with SLAPPER’s superb control of sonic energy lending to the song’s mesmeric qualities from start to finish. Wrapped up in stellar sound design and packed full of engaging twists and turns, “Imagination” lays down an epic electronic jam that’s sure to impress his existing fans while winning over new dance music lovers everywhere. More than two decades after first stepping into Bucharest’s underground scene, Claudiu-Gabriel Tache continues to confirm that nostalgia and innovation need never exist in opposition when guided by a clear artistic vision.
