On first impression, Danish singer-songwriter and producer Tobias Lund appears calm and understated but once he begins to sing, that restraint gives way to a joyous flutter of warmth and soul. Bringing together Scandinavian minimalism with smooth R&B vibes, soulful vocals and slick grooves, Tobias has creating a style he’s dubbed Nordic Soul, a sound that feels equally informed by simplicity and emotional impact.
Since relocating from Denmark in 2023, Tobias has become an active presence within Austin’s music community and his move to pursue music full-time has bloomed as his collaborative spirit has connected him with artists across both Austin and Nashville. Far from working in isolation, he’s embraced the city’s creative culture, building a network of musicians, performers and friends. Over the past two years, he’s recorded and performed alongside numerous Austin and Nashville artists, including EddieAngel, who was named KUTX’s Artist of the Month earlier this year.
His official artistic entrance came in the summer of 2023 with the debut single “Hurts Just a Little,” the first showcase of a sonic output that would expand over the following months. A succession of singles eventually led to the release of his debut EP, Leap of Faith, the following year, with subsequent releases continuing to build on that early momentum.
Along the way, Tobias and his five-piece band have earned recognition from organisations including KUTX and Sonic Guild, while winning over audiences through regular performances across Texas, Louisiana and Tennessee. As well as those achievements, collaboration has remained central to his artistic vision and that context comes into particularly sharp focus on his latest single titled “Sorry,” a release created in collaboration with one of Austin’s most beloved R&B groups, Smooth Nature.

Landing not so much as a conventional guest collaboration, “Sorry” feels like the meeting point between two fully formed musical worlds which reflects shared creative input, with Tobias’ knack for melodic writing flowing naturally with R&B flair. Completing the partnership is producer Phono Magic, whose smooth production also featured on Tobias’ earlier song “Holding On,” helping bring to life a sound that belongs equally to everyone involved. Emotionally, the single explores one of the most painful moments within a relationship, recognising that it’s reached a point where remaining together would ultimately hurt both people.
Brought in by the flicker of sax, slide of bass and twinkle of chiming tones, the track slips into a mellow groove where delicate guitar lines and bright piano plinks underpin Tobias’ alluring vocal leads. Jumping into a laid back rhythmic pulse, the chorus lands with stunning melodic lines carrying heartfelt lyricism, forming an enchanting indie R&B soundscape that’s memorable, meaningful and truly impossible not to love. Rolling with a verse of breezy rapped vocals, Smooth Nature inject their stellar musical imprint into the track while dazzling sax leads dance atop the enamouring arrangement to craft a magical musical moment.
Rising to a lively finale, pattering drums and overlapping vocal layers swirl into an entirely absorbing scene that’s sure to leave a lasting impression of the song. Brimming with incredible vocal performance, tender songwriting and superb musicianship, “Sorry” sees Tobias Lund and Smooth Nature serve up an epic collaborative outing that’s more than the sum of its parts. With “Sorry,” Tobias Lund delivers a compelling slice of highly affecting R&B and we can’t wait to see what comes next from this talented singer-songwriter on the rise.
