Toddy Tang is an artistic project conceived and produced by Hillg Tedsang, built around an intricate style of songwriting, production and creative direction. Hillg uses personal experience as the starting point before adding poetic lyrics and shaping the musical aesthetic of each song through an intensely considered creative process. Hillg develops the melodies collaboratively, tweaking each part until it belongs exactly where it needs to be, while Toddy brings the finished ideas to life through a distinctive vocal presece.
Every line and take is carefully considered, with performances repeatedly sculpted until they capture the emotion and character Hillg is searching for. Some songs reportedly pass through more than 200 versions, with melodies, vocals, production, arrangements and even individual lines being changed along the way. Toddy Tang provides another artistic voice through which to explore love, loss, desire, transformation and rebuilding, with the project forming a space where those experiences can be examined, reshaped and given new form.
Ultimately, Toddy Tang is music with soul and breath, with the emotional character of each track arising through the combination of experience, experimentation and painstaking artistic direction. First unveiling the Toddy Tang project in 2024 with the debut single “A Bittersweet Sorrow Born of Romance,” singles two and three arrived last year before he returned this year with the EP, Toddy’s Live House. Now the project opens an exciting new chapter with “April Apocalypse,” the first single from Toddy Tang’s upcoming album.

It’s an appropriately dramatic title for a song concerned with a very personal kind of catastrophe; “April Apocalypse” isn’t so much about the literal destruction of the world as what happens when an imagined future suddenly collapses, taking with it the happiness that had become attached to that vision. The world outside remains intact and nothing around the narrator necessarily changes but internally, an entire universe disappears and that contrast gives the song its emotional impact.
A seemingly gentle moment becomes a point of rupture, transforming what might once have represented possibility into something that can no longer exist. Shock and loss gradually become something more ritualistic, as though the act of giving the experience a name is itself part of understanding it and the apocalypse here isn’t an explosive spectacle but an internal collapse.
On the track, alternative electronic production meets futuristic pop and cinematic textures, creating an atmosphere that feels at once experimental and engaging. Opened by the swell of deep low end texture, the stutter of vocal shots and rustle of metallic percussion ushers in a mellow scene of hushed vocals and gliding synth bass, carried by the laid back taps of drums. Rolling with memorable melodic leads and alluring vocal style, the punch of the beat and surge of bass injects energy while the atmospheric arrangement crafts a truly immersive sound.
With pulsing groove, poignant lyricism and engrossing sound design, “April Apocalypse” sees Toddy Tang serve up an epic jam that’s hypnotic, intoxicating and thoroughly captivating all at once. With the highly anticipated full-length record on the way, Toddy Tang is sure to win over listeners around the world with his highly original and utterly compelling musical output.
