Before feeds became endless and every digital space seemed designed to keep us scrolling, being online could feel like stepping into an unfamiliar world full of strange colours, clunky interfaces and limitless possibility. Danish producer and composer Frederik Meyer takes that feeling and explores it musically through Baychimo, an electronic project that combines digital experimentation with a human and cinematic style.
First unveiling the project in 2018 with the debut single “LEAVE,” he returned in 2023 with new material and has since been on a prolific creative spree, building an expansive catalogue across multiple well-received releases. Over the last couple of years, his music has increasingly revealed a knack for moving between genres and moods via a versatility that’s also been clear in his live work.
Baychimo’s shows have received strong reviews at Danish and international events across countries including Germany, Ukraine and Iceland. At SPOT Festival 2017, the Jutland Station compared his performance at the Dome of Visions to an anarchic meeting of Bonobo, Modeselektor and Noisia, describing it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience and marking Baychimo out as a must watch producer on the rise.
His collaborations with Danish act mono mono have also earned critical acclaim, adding another facet to a career that’s continually moved between production, composition and performance. Recent projects including Save State Expansion Pack, released via Sweet Chunk and Save State Memory Leak have further explored a fascination with low-poly jungle, drum and bass and retro video game worlds. Now he brings us his latest release with his brand new full-length record titled Personality Computer, a genre-fluid concept album built around the aesthetics and optimism of the early web.

Inspired by Frutiger Aero visuals and the digital language of the Windows 95 era, the record looks back to a time when computers and the internet seemed like an unexplored frontier. Windows 95, MSN and Skype belong to a particular period of digital culture, when online spaces could feel new, open and full of possibility. Personality Computer takes the emotional memory of that era and rebuilds it through experimental electronic production. IDM, prog jazz, garage, drum and bass, vaporwave and lo-fi all collide in the release, with Baychimo allowing them to overlap to craft a surreal sonic environment that feels playful and highly original.
Set up by the intro piece “Terms of Service,” a blend of robotic vocalisations and bubbling computer noises form an immersive soundscape that sketches out the digital world for listeners to step into. “CD-R Circles” follows with the soft pulse of sweeping instrumental tones as the rustle of tapped percussion brings a steady forward motion. Developing with the pulse of zapping bass shots, the track glides through a shifting scene that swells with driving synth layers and lively drums to deliver an engrossing musical experience unlike any other.
“World Wide WAV-File” stutters into view with staccato instrumentation before the uptempo shuffle of crisp beats ushers in stacks of woozy synth layers and passages of intricate bass-led energy. “Comic Sans” serves up a danceable jam of stabby synth elements and jumping rhythms while tracks like “3D Maze” slow things down to lean into a dreamy sonic sphere of sustained textures and bright piano elements. Other highlights include tracks like “Surf” with its wobble of pulsing synth tones and airy atmosphere, offering an engaging outing that develops with fluttering instrumentation and snapping beats.
On “Fisher Price PC,” Baychimo links up with Malthe Jepsen to deliver a transportive musical moment of drifting synths and slick percussion which float through an epic soundscape packed full of twists and turns. Closing the release with “Be Right Back,” the laid back blend of soft synths and intricate key tones hover above the mellow shuffle of drums to craft a playful finale to Baychimo’s superb new concept record. Personality Computer ultimately asks what happens when nostalgia becomes source material and the answer is a strange and genre-defying electronic world where the past is reimagined in exciting new ways.
