In the space where music, technology and visual storytelling meet, Vela Jones arrives with a project that treats those elements as parts of the same creative language. Conceived as a visionary virtual artist, Vela exists between imagination and reality, building a futuristic world around cinematic production, emotional storytelling and an engaging songwriting, resulting in a musical offering that’s unique and truly captivating.
Within the futuristic identity however, the ideas driving Vela Jones are thoroughly human, with themes of love, memory, survival, hope and the desire to connect at the centre of the project, creating an intriguing contrast between its technologically minded presentation and the timeless emotions within its songs. Flickering between art pop, alternative pop and atmospheric electronic music, in Vela’s sound, shimmering synth textures, cinematic soundscapes and contemporary pop songwriting combine to create an environment that can feel equally intimate and otherworldly.
Their ambition is to explore how innovation and emotional connection can exist together and that vision first began taking shape earlier this year with the debut single “Static Air.” It was followed by the sophomore release “Star Light Star Bright,” continuing the project’s gradual expansion while further mapping out its identity. Now comes “Back To Blue,” the third single from Vela Jones and perhaps its most intriguing shift so far.

The new track explores a more mellow, soulful R&B dimension, forming part of an ambitious concept project focused on life within an imaginary human colony in the year 2099, but its central feeling is one that requires no futuristic setting to understand. Away from Earth, the song’s characters experience a profound yearning for friends, family and the planet they once called home. It’s essentially homesickness on an interplanetary scale and that idea gives Vela Jones’ futuristic concept an emotional lens through which to explore experiences that remain recognisable regardless of where humanity might eventually find itself.
Distance may change the circumstances, but the desire to return to something familiar remains. Set up by the laid back taps of percussion, the pulse of bass and bubble of bright synths is met by sweeping vocalisations as intricate flashes of guitar adds to the breezy groove. Soft vocal leads drift in carrying picture painting lyrics via smooth melodies, casting a dreamy indie pop scene full of delicate instrumentation, alluring vocals and memorable songwriting.
Gliding with subtly danceable sway and tinged with gentle funk vibes, “Back To Blue” delivers a delightful musical moment that’s catchy and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. The song also serves as a statement of intent for the forthcoming 2027 concept album The Gravity of You, which will explore existence beyond Earth and the relatable experience of homesickness in greater artistic detail. Vela Jones is interested in asking what parts of ourselves we would carry to the future and the answer, so far, seems beautifully simple; memories of home, the people we love and the dsire to belong somewhere.
