Hailing from the historic city of Leuven in Belgium, self-taught artist Mieloi has been building a musical world from a bedroom studio. Working independently as the sole creative figure behind the project, Mieloi takes inspiration from the natural landscapes surrounding their parents’ home, translating the calm of those outdoor spaces into electronic compositions that feel expansive despite their personal origins.
Avoiding a rush towards a finished track, the producer spends considerable time refining individual elements until they reach the emotional quality they’re looking for. That dedication has resulted in a sound influenced by both technical experimentation and creative expression, particularly through the use of Serum 2 synths to create warm, layered atmospheres. The music lands in an intriguing space between ambience and movement, where Mieloi has developed an ability to pair spacious electronic textures with driving rhythmic elements, creating compositions that can adapt to very different listening environments.
The tracks can exist as immersive headphone experiences, relaxed background sound or something with enough momentum to accompany more active moments. That versatility was already apparent when Mieloi made their official artistic entrance last year with EP 1. The three-track release introduced the framework of the project while bringing in RØBA and Timmy for collaborative tracks to present the first showcase of an artist still in the process of defining their sound, but with a readily apparent interest in the relationship between atmosphere and rhythm.

Now Mieloi returns with “Intro,” an enthralling slice of chillout drum and bass that takes their sonic exploration even further. Built around piano and enhanced with intricately layered electronic production, the track arose from Mieloi’s experience of learning the instrument and experimenting with new techniques. “Intro” feels particularly effective in the way it eschews settling into a single mood; the track’s chilled atmosphere carries the tranquillity that runs through Mieloi’s wider creative inspiration, while uplifting percussion introduces a sense of forward momentum, resulting in music that can feel calming and energising in equal measure.
Recorded in the bedroom, the single also highlights the project’s DIY character, with Mieloi handling the production independently, combining atmospheric synth work with driving bass elements. Set up by soft piano notes and a lo-fi crackle while birdsong flickers in the arrangement, the rattle of metallic hi hat taps adds a sense of rhythmic energy while pulsing kick swells and shuffling percussion filters in. Flowing with moments of elegant piano flourishes, the track launches with charging drum and bass energy, where crisp beats propel the dreamy instrumentation forward to craft a thrilling listening experience that’s invigorating and uplifting throughout.
Nature remains an important influence, with Mieloi capturing the feeling of being surrounded by open space and translating that sensation into electronic form. The contrast may be what makes the track so utterly compelling and “Intro” can work as relaxed listening, allowing its softer textures to settle into the background, but its rhythmic energy also gives it an exhilarating quality. Having introduced the project with EP 1, Mieloi now goes from strength to strength with his second release and we can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for the rest of 2026 and beyond.
