Hailing from Ulm in Germany, Cathrin Poschin is a contemporary composer and sound designer whose work forms in a compelling space between neoclassical composition and electronic experimentation. Since making her artistic entrance with the debut single “On the Wave” in July last year, Cathrin has developed a highly unique sonic output built around atmosphere, emotion and an impressive understanding of musical storytelling.
Her compositions present engrossing sonic landscapes that seem to unlock images and tales, opening a door to wholly absorbing experiences unlike any other. Fragility and intensity sit alongside one another, while moments of high-stakes drama are balanced by melancholic and mysterious undertones and it’s this tension that gives her music such a cinematic quality. Her pieces can feel intimate and restrained one moment before opening into something more expansive, allowing the listener’s imagination to occupy the spaces between the sounds.
This can be heard across her growing body of work, including compositions such as “To the Last Door,” where neoclassical stylings meet subtle electronic elements. Cathrin integrates electronic production into her compositions with a delicacy that allows the two worlds to become almost indistinguishable, resulting in a hybrid sound that feels organic, sophisticated and carefully constructed. Her productions are characterised by considerable spatial depth, with a deliberate balance between emotional density and minimalist structure and those open spaces become part of the storytelling, giving visual ideas somewhere to arise and allow the listener to construct their own interpretation.

Her relationship with sound design is truly astonishing and her recent single titled “The Lights of the Lost Worlds” offers a stunning display of her sound. Mystical and multi-layered, the composition combines hypnotic arpeggios with emotional, developing melodies to create a cinematic atmosphere that feels deliberately elusive. There’s a sense of mystery running throughout the song, conjuring an aura that remains difficult to grasp while steadily drawing the listener deeper into its world.
Opened by the soft tone of delicate piano notes as the heartbeat pulse of kick maintains a steady forward motion, deep bass synth elements and airy strings add to the arrangement as subtly eerie piano lines drift above, casting a mesmeric musical atmosphere. Developing with gradually rising intensity, overlapping layers of hazy low-end and twinkling textures coalesce into a truly transportive listening experience from start to finish. Flowing through intricate moments of piano-led passages and swells of cinematic bliss, it’s a dazzling musical moment that’s enveloping and highly original in equal measure.
Importantly, Cathrin’s music is designed not only to be experienced as standalone composition but also to function as a flexible creative resource. “The Lights of the Lost Worlds” arrives as a comprehensive 36-asset cinematic package, including a full mix, piano version, nine audio stems and 25 short edits. That breadth gives film editors, music supervisors and other storytellers the freedom to shape the material around individual scenes, trailers and teasers. It’s a natural extension of her artistic philosophy; her music leaves enough space for images to take centre stage while still providing them with an emotional framework. Whether accompanying drama, mystery or more poignant moments, her compositions understand that sometimes the most effective soundtrack is the one that knows when not to overwhelm the picture.
