Hailing from Reading, Caliber Skies is a new band tapping into the emotional charge of mid-2000s pop punk while giving it a heavier, more modern edge. Their sound brings together emotive lyrics, angsty vocals and drop-tuned metal riffs, creating something that feels instantly familiar while offering something entirely new. It’s music informed by nostalgia but with enough impact and energy to make that nostalgia feel thoroughly exciting and newly relevant.
The project began with vocalist Tommy, who returned to his musical origins of April 2005 with the intention of recapturing the magic of an era defined by pop punk, new metal and emo-core. Working alongside London-based producer Jxckfruit, that initial intrigue developed into a full artistic vision and what started as a desire to revisit a formative sound soon bloomed into a new band. By November last year, the lineup had taken shape around Tommy, with guitarist Jack Walker, bassist Michael Brookfield, drummer Tony Thompson and guitarist Sam Lewis completing the quintet.
The chemistry was instantly clear and from their first rehearsals, the band were able to combine material that had already been written with new compositions, creating a natural meeting point between Tommy’s original ideas and the collective energy of the lineup. Their influences are firmly based in the era that inspired the project; Jimmy Eat World, Blink-182, Boys Night Out and Weezer provide inspiration with the energy, melody and emotional context of mid-2000s pop punk present, while heavier switch-ups take the sound somewhere more intense.

Now, making their emphatic entrance, they share the first taste of their studio sound with their debut single titled “Attention,” providing the first full introduction to their creative formula. It’s a high-octane track revolving around the emotionally charged experience of overcoming a traumatic breakup and discovering that time can become part of the healing process. The emotional context of the song was also present during the recording process at Qube Studios in London where it was crafted entirely on the spot, allowing the band’s feelings and energy to shape the track as it developed.
Jumping straight into a a grooving alternative rock scene where stuttering rhythms and stabbing guitars form an energising soundscape, the track shifts into a melodic pop punk scene as Tommy’s smooth vocals enter to spin memorable melodies above. Surging into an anthemic chorus, his bright voice carries alluring hooks above the punching drums and gritty guitars as intricate lead notes flicker in the background. Slipping into a mellow verse where jangly guitar chords, warm bass tones and warm vocal layers drift together, the track builds with biting guitar riffs and belted vocals, resulting in a thrilling musical voyage unlike any other.
Deftly balancing delicate melodic moments with enthralling passages of charging rock energy, “Attention” puts Caliber Skies’ fiercely original songwriting and musicianship flair on full display. Having made an explosive arrival with their riveting debut single, Caliber Skies have firmly planted themselves on the map of must watch new acts on the rise in the alternative rock sphere and we can’t wait to see what else they’ve got in store for what’s sure to be their breakout year.
