Berlin-based songwriter Karlo Bromsen has always seen music as a sphere where imagination and melody can collide in exciting ways. From working as one half of the indietronic duo Bromsen to now stepping out as a solo artist, his songwriting has consistently favoured curiosity, creating songs that blend elements of indie rock, experimental pop and folk. His latest creative chapter feels especially liberated, embracing eccentric storytelling, playful visuals and the sort of offbeat charm that transforms ordinary ideas into wonderfully surreal adventures.
Before launching his solo project, Karlo built a creative partnership with Richard Bromsen that stretches back more than twenty years. Together, they first appeared during the mid-2000s as The Pampelmuse, earning a reputation for adventurous experimentation and a knack for fusing different musical styles into something entirely their own. Although the project came to an end in 2006 before reaching the wider breakthrough they’d hoped for, the creative flame would burn as Bromsen.
Alongside that collaborative journey, Karlo has continued to develop a songwriting voice of his own; his solo material lands in an intriguing space where memorable melodies meet unusual characters and subtly absurd themes. Now, that uniquely imaginative spirit takes centre stage on his debut solo single titled “Parlin Papito,” a track that opens the door to a delightfully unconventional world populated by a tiny hand-drawn character whose adventures play out somewhere between colourful childhood imagination and alternative pop.

The track kicks off with rhythmic vocalisations as stabbing guitars and drum shots hint at the incoming sound which sees the track jump into a grooving scene of bouncing percussion, buzzy synths, slick guitar flashes and lively vocal elements. Rolling with punching beats and colourful instrumentation capped by expressive vocals, the song launches into a driving burst of sonic energy before an abrupt rhythmic switch up leads to an invigorating soundscape cut with funky guitar rhythms and woozy synth leads, resulting in a thrilling listening experience packed full of twists and turns.
The inspiration behind Papito comes from a profoundly personal place, with the character originating from drawings created by Karlo’s son, Willi, whose sketches became the spark for an entire creative universe. Those drawings gradually expanded into the heart of the project, inspiring both the song itself and the distinctive visual identity that accompanies it. In Papito’s world, the ordinary quickly becomes extraordinary and the tiny cartoon figure rises from a corked bottle before setting off into a landscape populated by bees, bumblebees, eccentric villains and moments of family chaos.
Everyday situations are gently exaggerated until they become something whimsical and unpredictable, giving the song an infectious sense of childlike wonder. The accompanying music video plays an equally important role in bringing that world to life via a DIY aesthetic that embraces the imperfect charm of hand-drawn animation, allowing Papito’s personality to form through simple yet engaging storytelling.
With “Parlin Papito,” Karlo Bromsen introduces his solo career through a thoroughly unconventional lens, delivering a release where music, illustration and storytelling become intrinsically linked parts of one joyful creative vision. Arriving as the latest artistic chapter in his enduring musical story, Karlo Bromsen’s new solo endeavour is sure to serve up more delightful musical moments and we can’t wait to follow along.
