Ohio-based artist Lee Miller Matsos arrived at contemporary music by taking a route that feels almost theatrical by design. Before turning towards alternative pop and rock, Lee spent years working in opera and musical theatre, developing a commanding vocal presence and a talent for emotional storytelling. Those origins remain embedded in his work but they’ve been reshaped through modern songwriting and production, creating music where cinematic expression meets a more intimate sense of sonic vision.
Drawing inspiration from U2, Coldplay, Paul Simon and Eric Clapton, he brings melodic pop rock together with meaningful lyricism and an understanding of the emotional complexity behind his songs. Grief, pain, healing and hope become experiences that overlap, circle back and take on new forms, offering listeners a space where their own experiences can find echoes.
His interest in performance was initially sparked by watching legendary artists including Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. command an audience. That intrigue eventually led him towards formal musical training, studying operatic performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. This gave him a strong technical skillset but it was a growing fascination with modern songwriting and recording that eventually pulled him in another direction.
That transition gathered momentum in 2019, when Lee enrolled at Holland College, a Berklee partner school in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. It was there that much of the material for his Metamorphosis project began to take shape, forging a work that would become both an artistic statement and a reflection of personal transformation. The three-part series has played out across several years, with the first instalment arriving in 2023, followed by Metamorphosis, Pt. 2 the next year.

Now, with Metamorphosis, Pt. 3, Lee Miller Matsos completes the trilogy, bringing together a body of work that mirrors the shifting nature of his creative and personal identity. The three EPs are ultimately intended to be compiled into a complete full-length album, but Pt. 3 already feels like a significant closing chapter. Working with producer Coen Sosa, Lee recorded the EP through a renowned vintage analogue console at New Monkey Studio, building a haunting, nostalgically cinematic landscape from 90s alternative rock textures, synths and Mellotron.
The EP opens with a 2026 remaster of “Love Came Home To Stay,” a song which was composed during the early days of the pandemic and came from profound solitude and grief, connecting the collective heartbreak of global isolation with the loss of Matsos’ mother in the years before. Steady drum shuffles create a laid-back groove, while bright piano chords and breezy electric guitar introduce a gentle sense of movement as Lee’s expressive voice carries delicate melodies above the arrangement before pulsing bass and flashes of lead guitar gradually build towards a chorus that balances memorable songwriting with poignant subject matter.
“Youth Is Gone” flows with intricate piano notes and hushed vocals while graceful string tones softly drift through the arrangement, offering an intimate and highly affecting musical moment that blooms with pattering drums, orchestral instrumentation and compelling vocals. “Change” was inspired by the exploratory spirit of 90s-era Radiohead, leaning into a more experimental alternative sound, replacing brightness with atmosphere and carefully constructed layers. Abrupt rhythmic shifts create a sense of instability as the song gathers pace, bringing subtle rock intensity before drifting into dreamier passages.
With “Highway to Peace,” the hazy atmosphere of gentle drums and airy vocals crafts a stripped back outing that gradually develops with slick lead guitar touches to cast a mesmeric listening experience. Closing the EP with “Garbage on Your Street,” the graceful bounce of piano ushers in Lee’s enticing vocals as mellow rhythms and immersive instrumental textures swirl to create an upbeat alternative pop soundscape. Rising with crashing drums, driving instrumentation and impassioned vocals, the song swells to a dazzling finale to conclude both the new EP and wider Metamorphosis series in spectacular fashion.
