Music has always existed as something beyond sound alone for Miami-based concert pianist and composer Tingting Wu. Through her innovative LumiMusic project, she’s created an immersive concert experience where colour, light and classical music become intertwined, transforming traditional piano performance into a fully sensory journey. Combining synchronised lighting with renowned classical works, modern compositions, film music and her own original pieces, Tingting is exploring new possibilities for how audiences experience live music.
The background for that vision was built from an early age; Tingting began studying classical piano when she was just six years old, developing a lifelong relationship with the instrument that would eventually lead her onto distinguished stages and into the world of composition. Her performances have reflected both virtuoso talent and artistic imagination, with her work continually searching for new ways to connect musicians and audiences.
That dedication led Tingting to the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where she completed her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance in 2023. Awarded the highest stipend and a full scholarship, she studied under Kevin Kenner, the first prize winner of the International Chopin Piano Competition, further developing her skills as both a performer and interpreter of classical repertoire.
Her work has already taken her into a variety of high-profile settings and in 2024, Tingting performed as the solo pianist for the PBS television production Pictures at an Exhibition alongside Grammy and Emmy Award-winning conductor Gerard Schwarz. The following year, she brought LumiMusic to Broadway, performing as the solo pianist for the New York AI International Film Festival Awards Ceremony at Symphony Space, performances that have further highlighted her ability to bring together traditional musicianship with innovative presentation.

Alongside her work as a performer and creator of immersive experiences, Tingting has continued crafting her own musical voice as a composer and over the last five years. Her latest release comes with the composition titled “Turning,” a piece which captures her highly original vision through a composition inspired by both movement and transformation. Drawing from the graceful motion of ballet turns, the piece explores the many changes and transitions that shape life itself, where a turn can represent a shift in direction, a moment of uncertainty or the beginning of something entirely new.
Sometimes a single turn represents a goodbye, the moment when two people move in different directions and leave a shared chapter behind but within that sense of ending exists the possibility of renewal, where one conclusion becomes the starting point for a new journey. Captured in a delicate, two-minute solo piano composition, “Turning” opens with the tender flutter of intricate piano plinks, where lead melodies delicately dance atop steady bass notes, casting an utterly spellbinding musical experience that’s mesmeric, transportive and thoroughly captivating from start to finish.
Creating an enchanting musical moment that’s impossible not to be moved by, “Turning” is sure to charm anyone who hears it. The poetic idea behind the piece frames the idea that a turn can be a change of seasons, a goodbye that lasts a lifetime, or the beginning of a new chapter and through beautiful composition and expressive performance, Tingting transforms this reflection into a musical meditation on movement, memory and possibility. With her unique combination of classical discipline, compositional creativity and immersive performance, Tingting Wu represents a new generation of artists exploring where music can go next and we can’t wait to see where she takes it.
