For more than two decades, Mýa has remained a constant presence across the shifting worlds of R&B and pop, building a career defined by adaptability, discipline and creative independence. A Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, producer, dancer and actress, she first arrived as a teenager in the late 90s and quickly confirmed herself as an artist capable of moving between music, film and wider culture. More than 20 million records sold worldwide later, her latest chapter finds her looking backwards for inspiration while continuing to create for the present.
Mýa first made waves in 1998 with her self-titled debut album, released when she was just 18. The record achieved double-platinum status and introduced listeners to singles including “It’s All About Me,” “Movin’ On” and “My First Night With You.” Her momentum grew through collaborations and increasingly high-profile releases; “Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are)” became an early cross-genre breakthrough, earning Mýa a Grammy nomination and opening her music to a wider global audience.
Then came “Lady Marmalade” in 2001, the landmark collaboration with Pink, Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim and Missy Elliott for the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack. The song became a global hit, earning Mýa a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals alongside multiple MTV Video Music Awards. That history forms an important backdrop to Retrospect, Mýa’s tenth studio album and her first full-length studio release in eight years. The project draws inspiration from the synth-driven aesthetic of late 1970s and 1980s Minneapolis funk, reconnecting with sounds that shaped her early musical influences while taking them towards new creative spheres.

Lifted from the new record is “Give It To You,” a track that lands with the pure flair of an artist comfortable saying exactly what she wants. Mýa wrote and recorded “Give It To You” back in 2016, bringing the track forward a decade later for Retrospect. Collaborating artist D-Nice kicks off the song as the host of Retrospect Live, immediately transporting listeners to 1985 with references to block parties, roller skates, funk, soul and feel-good music. From there, Mýa takes over with a lyric that leaves little room for coyness, embracing desire with playful directness.
The attitude of the track extends into the visual world surrounding the release, with the music video shot outdoors in Venice Beach, placing Mýa in a sunlit California setting while drawing from the Minneapolis sound associated with Prince and Jam & Lewis. Its grainy aesthetic also nods towards Breakin’, while style references including Vanity 6, Mary Jane Girls and Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam give the visual a 1980s frame.
“Give It To You” follows recent videos for “Just a Little Bit” featuring Too $hort and “ASAP,” continuing a run of visual and musical work that’s brought new attention to Mýa’s catalogue. Her latest phase also coincides with signing with WME for worldwide representation across music, touring, film, television, theatre, fashion, wellness, brand partnerships and other business opportunities.
Retrospect arrives as another opportunity for Mýa to connect different points in her creative history and while the sounds may look back, the project itself remains active and forward-facing. After more than two decades of artistic adventure, “Give It To You” captures an artist revisiting an older recording and finding that its energy still belongs in the present. With her tenth studio album now out, new visuals continuing to arise and a new chapter of worldwide representation underway, Mýa continues to operate at the very highest level.
