Based in Miami and created through Retro Modern Records, Beyond Disdain is a project that began long before the first record. The hard rock and alternative metal project grew from a friendship, a shared obsession with the golden era of nu metal and hard rock and an idea first scribbled into a middle school notebook. It’s quickly become a rapidly expanding musical world, with son-and-mother duo Trevor and Shana Anderson leading the project as its principal co-producers.
Beyond Disdain creates music made by people who feel indebted to the sounds that raised them, with every release seen as an opportunity to build the sort of music they once talked about making. The process begins with an idea, then moves through lyrics, melodies driven by real instruments, chords and progressions before the production is shaped through professional mixing, mastering and a combination of traditional techniques and next-generation technology.
Crucially, the technology never replaces the human element; every track is written, arranged and directed by hand, with the team’s input embedded throughout the process. The technology is simply another instrument in the toolkit, part of a wider approach that puts musicianship and creative expression at the centre. The band first made an impact a year ago with “Everything We Gave,” a breakout debut hit single that’s clocked over twenty million streams during its first year, while hundreds of thousands of monthly listeners have found the project through Spotify alone.
Their eponymous debut record followed in November last year, mapping out the path for what comes next. Now Beyond Disdain return with Till Death Parts Us, an 18-track sophomore album that represents the Miami outfit’s most ambitious release thus far. The record takes their blend of heavy riffs and haunting vocals into darker, more cinematic spheres, exploring themes of grief, memory, loss, obsession and survival.

There’s something particularly fitting about those themes within the project’s musical framework, with Beyond Disdain drawing from the early-2000s hard rock and alternative metal stylings, placing their sound alongside the era represented by Paramore, Evanescence, Flyleaf, Breaking Benjamin and Chevelle. Opened by “The Lies Beneath,” intricate guitar notes form an eerie soundscape as the punch of drums and expressive vocals combine to cast an engrossing alternative rock scene that surges with gripping melodic hooks and anthemic rock energy.
Tracks like “Marionette” puts Beyond Disdain’s memorable songwriting and energising sound on full display while “Confliction” pairs powerful vocal performance with enthralling instrumentation to deliver a riff-driven, metal-inflected outing packed full of riveting songwriting. Lead single “Lost Inside The Sound” flows with atmospheric guitar tones before the track launches with stacks of guitar chords, synth textures and pounding drums. Progressing with compelling vocal leads and intoxicating melodic lines, the track swells with belted leads and thrilling alternative rock energy, resulting in a spectacular showcase of Beyond Disdain’s incredible musical vision.
Other highlights on the record include songs like “Checkmate” with its gritty guitar notes and breathy vocals setting up a rousing musical experience brimming with impassioned vocals and exhilarating arrangement. “Upside Down” blends charging metal energy with cutting edge electronic elements to deliver a sensational run through of Beyond Disdain’s fiercely original songwriting and truly engaging sound.
With “Static Electricity,” mesmeric instrumental textures swirl above the steady taps of percussion as alluring vocalisations drift above, crafting a transportive soundscape that slips into a pop-focused rock sound that’s wholly absorbing and truly impossible not to love. “When I Sink” brings twanging guitar tones and crisp drums capped by Isaiah Richards’ commanding vocal performance while closing title track “Till Death Parts Us” takes listeners on a thoroughly consuming musical voyage to offer a stellar finale to Beyond Disdain’s magnificent sophomore record.
