Dallas-based performer Dean Morgan sees comedy as more than an opportunity to make people laugh; it’s a way of bringing a little happiness into a world that can often feel bogged down by its problems. Through his comedic alter ego Sheldon Mashugana, Dean has developed a distinctive creative identity built around goofy humour, slapstick entertainment and a thoroughly enjoyable feel-good approach. With a catalogue of 18 slapstick comedy films already available on YouTube, his work places joy at the centre of the experience, offering audiences a welcome break from the stresses of everyday life.
Sheldon Mashugana represents the lighter side of Dean’s artistic ambitions, with the character now finding another outlet through music. Recording primarily at Justin Pierce Music studio in Dallas, Dean has formed a creative partnership with producer Justin Pierce, who oversees the mixing and production of his releases. The collaboration provides a setting for Sheldon to bring his playful personality into a different format, expanding beyond the comedy films that have helped define the project thus far. With television appearances scheduled in Santa Fe throughout this month and neext, the character is also continuing to reach audiences beyond the online platforms where his work first took shape.
Dean has been open about the motivation behind his creative persona, explaining, “In today’s world there is a lot of depression and problems, Sheldon Mashugana makes things a lot nicer and happy feeling.” That philosophy runs throughout his musical output, where humour and entertainment take precedence over seriousness. By not attempting to offer complicated answers to life’s difficulties, Sheldon Mashugana embraces the simple pleasure of making people smile, building a world where silliness is very much the point.
The project’s first taste of the studio came last year with the debut single, “Sheldon Mashugana Does Surfin Bird (Live)” and last month brought the follow-up, “Monster Mash,” continuing the development of a musical vision that draws on the same comic stylings as Dean’s screen work. Now, his latest single titled “It’s Turkey Day” takes that approach into the sphere of Thanksgiving, delivering a comedic anthem based on one of America’s most cherished holidays.

For this release, Sheldon links up with Crystal Carr, an American singer, songwriter and recording artist whose vocal versatility has allowed her to work across multiple genres. Known as a vocal chameleon, Crystal brings passionate, bright vocals to a growing catalogue of collaborations and placements, including work connected with FOX Network’s STAR, TNT Drama’s Claws and the Netflix movie Love Trap. Her songwriting and recording work has also intersected with artists including Radio Disney artist Skylar Stecker, Nickelodeon star K-Jay, New Orleans culture sensation Shae Williams and Alvester Martin.
On “It’s Turkey Day,” her melodic delivery provides a counterpoint to Sheldon’s comedic interruptions. Co-written by both artists, with music created by Crystal and Justin Pierce, the track follows Sheldon and Crystal as they chase a turkey on Thanksgiving Day. The increasingly ridiculous scenario even includes a visit to a Dallas Cowboys game, while flatulence jokes are scattered throughout with little concern for restraint, as subtlety, evidently, is not on the menu.
The production adds another distinctive element through its use of doubled-up lyrics, creating a particular sound that complements the track’s playful character. Against this backdrop, Sheldon delivers his signature funny bits while Crystal supplies the upbeat melodic vocals, allowing the two performers to approach the same story from different angles. Their collaboration gives the single a balance between musicality and absurdity, keeping the central joke moving while maintaining its celebratory spirit.
“It’s Turkey Day” serves up a buoyant, positive song about turkey, eating copious amounts of food and finding reasons to laugh together. It brings Sheldon Mashugana’s screen-ready silliness into a musical setting, with Crystal Carr adding another compelling musical element to the performance. As Dean Morgan continues to develop the character across recordings, films and upcoming television appearances, his latest release stays true to the mission behind the project. In Sheldon’s world, a Thanksgiving turkey chase and a generous helping of jokes are perfectly reasonable ingredients for a little seasonal happiness.
