A New Orleans band through and through, Sabertooth Swing carries a rich musical tradition of swing jazz, drawing on the history of the city they grew up in. Wrapping up their old musical roots with exciting new ramifications, they trace their origins within the local swing dance community.
Embracing a foot-tapping energy with a focus of serious musicianship at their core, their varied influences dictate the sound they offer which delivers something new whilst paying respects to the historical influences of New Orleans.
Now they bring us their latest full-length release with the new album titled Delta Bound. An ambitious and conscious work, the new album brings together the work of poets, activists and historical figures to cover themes of Louisiana’s violent history, racial issues and the complex culture from which jazz first emerged.
Produced by the band’s own Romain Beauxis and Chris Butcher and writer Holly Devon, it features guests such as Sister Helen Prejean, Bruce ‘Sunpie’ Barnes, Jeffery Broussard, Cedric Watson, Paul Chéene, The Daiquiri Queens and many others. Alongside Sabertooth Swing, they contribute thoughtful spoken word essays, readings of works by Sidney Bechet and Frank Stanford and excerpts from Spanish soldier Luis Hernandez de Biedma’s first-person account of the 16th Century De Soto expedition to add a varied and balanced perspective on an album that will be equally pleasing to casual listeners and serious jazz enthusiasts alike.
