Artist A.B. Violet hails from Southend-on-Sea in the UK and draws influence from the likes of London Grammar, Caribou, Massive Attack, Bombay Bicycle Club and her love of house music to create her own unique style of electro pop.
Previously her work has featured her vocals taking centre stage wrapped up in an ethereal arrangement of intricate synth-based instrumentation to create a dreamy pop sound. More recently however she’s taken a new approach with a string of home made mixes released under the Intermission collection.
Armed with new skills in producing music at home and restricted by a temporary lack of studio access, she’s making the best of the situation by working on her more instrumental-focused compositions. The first taste of this new music comes with the single “So Lonely”, a gentle house inspired dance piece full of rhythm and delicate sonic tapestry.
Themed around feelings of loneliness, the new track paints a picture of being out, dancing to a heavy beat and surrounded by other people yet still feeling like you’re alone. Crafting an emotive sound in a new musical context, “So Lonely” is A.B. Violet but not as you may think by offering an admirable exploration into new territory.
