Hailing from the city of Portland in Oregon, singer-songwriter Mariya May‘s artistic presence reaches beyond her own music. As a prolific collaborator, she’s worked on numerous projects with fellow roster artists from the Ten Dollar Recording Co catalogue, as well as inviting other musicians to feature on her own work such as “Out Walking” which saw Tomas Mudrick on backing vocals.
With her own music she offers a rich and immersive sound of dramatic indie-folk with an authentic sense of intimacy woven into her writing. Characterised by her strong vocal delivery at the core of her sound, Mariya May offers stunning melodically-focused songs full of bright instrumentation arrangement and nostalgic sentiments.
Now she brings us her new single with “Made of Stars”, a beautifully melancholic piece with touches of country influence and washes of psychedelic overtones. With a complex arrangement and structure, May’s vocals act as the thread that soars above and ties together, at times flying with mesmeric energy, at others simmering down and providing instrumental-esque textures.
With “Made of Stars”, Mariya May once again unveils her boundless creative vision on a song that demonstrates her abilities as a vocal performer as well as a writer of captivating and unique music that anyone can enjoy.
