Sydney-based musician Claire Inglis makes her own unique brand of indie folk pop music under the moniker Francis Eden. The stage name is derived from her middle name and the biblical story of the Garden of Eden – and the its lessons in human nature and temptation.
From an early age, Francis started playing multiple instruments including the piano, alto saxophone, trumpet, bass and guitar. First starting out in the music industry by helping to promote other Sydney-based acts on the radio and at open mic nights, she used this experience as a source of inspiration to help find her own creativity and artistic expression.
Her songwriting journey was born out of a happy accident; after writing with locals bands from the age of fifteen, she began to focus on singing to better convey her ideas to friends. Writing in her own voice gave her the confidence and belief in her own talents to move forward as an artist in her own right.
Now she brings us her debut single with the new track titled “Fool’s Gold”, an airy indie pop piece with touches of R&B and folk adding a truly original collision of styles. Smooth and sultry, with her studio debut she lays down a delightful introduction to her value as a solo artist. Embracing the DIY style of creating music, she draws on her two years studying music production to take control of the writing and recording process.
Commenting on the debut single, she shares, “Personally, this song is a critique on capitalism, and how our contributions to society don’t always align to money earned which allow us to survive and thrive. However, more broadly this song is for people that feel undervalued and under-appreciated for many valid reasons.”
