MonkeyRat is formed by the husband and wife duo of Anna Iachino and Arnold Ludvig. Anna is of Italian descent and originally hails from the city of Montreal, she’s the songwriter, vocalist, rapper, spoken word artist, poet, dancer and storyteller.
Arnold is the project’s composer, arranger and brings his award-winning virtuoso bass skills to the table too. Together, they formed MoneyRat in 2006 in Copenhagen along with the award-winning guitarist ALain Apaloo from Togo and the talented Danish drummer Jens Stoklund. As a group, their music touches many styles and bends to several genres but retains its main sound rooted in funk.
With their debut album, Fuck The Jante Law released in 2010 and their follow up sophomore record Sunshine two years later they received critical acclaim and won over fans around the world. With a string of singles and more releases since, they’ve been going from strength to strength over the last decade.
Now they bring us their new single, working with artist Anna Sofía Skoradal on the new track “The Child”. Written by Anna as a teenager when her dream of becoming a dancer was destroyed due to religion and culture, it was the only poem that she managed to keep hidden for all these years. Eventually Arnold found it and composed music for it to bring the words to life in musical form.
Making a slight departure from their typical grooving and bouncy sound, with the new single they offer an intimate and reflective sonic journey. The first song by the band composed entirely on Ableton Live by Arnold, it features the delicate vocal work of rising star Anna Sofía Skoradal.
