Indie Pop from Wotts

Ottawa-based indie pop duo Wotts is made up of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jayem and guitarist and bass player Ricky 100. Previously, they’ve taken to the stages of RBC Bluesfest, Canadian Music Week and Junofest as well as receiving shoutouts for their music from an array of notable outlets such as CBC Radio, Metro News and PopMatters.

As listeners, they find nostalgic vibes sticks with them most and that’s exactly what the pair aim for with their own sound. Following the release of their well-received single “Return Flight”, a moody track with heavy notes of R&B, they’ve released their latest work with the new song “Domino”.

Channelling the sounds of Dayglow and M83, they weave in their 80s inspirations into this shimmering synth-drenched jam that’s upbeat and infectiously catchy. Bright and vivid instrumental touches add vibrant colour to this melodic and uplifting indie pop anthem.

Produced by band member Jayem, the new song focuses on someone with a tendency for self-destructive behaviour. Commenting on the track, he shares, “The song isn’t a judgement on people that are going through tough times. We’ve all been there and some of us always have that struggle. But when I was writing it, I kept thinking of this one person in my life who can’t get out of their own way, who’s always falling into bad patterns.”

Bassist and guitarist Ricky 100 adds, “I think we’re having a lot of fun with exploring new sounds and really trying to build an atmosphere with our music.”
