New Zealand-born, US-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Estella Dawn offers an original indie pop sound that’s been rightly compared to that of Pink, Billie Eilish, Halsey, Sia and PVRIS. The good company is well deserved with her well-crafted songs full of bright melodic leads and strong instrumentation firmly earning her the plaudits she’s enjoyed so far.
Since 2018 she’s been releasing her music to critical acclaim and racking up millions of streams along the way as she’s delighted fans all around the world. Taking full control of her sound, she writes, records her vocals and piano as well as co-produces all aspects of her music.
With fourteen new tracks set for release over the course of this year, she’s kicked off with two stunning releases, with the tracks “Buzzcut” and “Easy To Fall”. The first releases of her highly anticipated upcoming album, the tracks give a taste of what’s to come from a musician on the rise.
On “Buzzcut”, Estella Dawn takes aim at the phenomenon of ‘chameleon daters’, those who change their appearance, style, music taste and even eating habits to mirror each new romantic partner. Commenting on the song, she shares, “I think as a women, we tend to do this more than men – we are conditioned to believe we have to shrink, re-adjust and mould ourselves to satiate the male gaze. There are so many products telling us how we should look, feel and smell, and countless more movies and shows telling us how we should act and behave. In our quest to find this perfect partner I think we can often end up compromising a lot of what makes us unique and special.”
Continuing, “I wanted to flip that narrative on its head with “Buzzcut”. This song is about holding your shape when embarking on a new relationship, an encouragement to “stay true to your own authentic flare.” To have someone be so enthralled with you that they would adjust themselves to better suit what they thought you wanted.”
“Easy To Fall” sees the artist deliver the very best of her catchy pop charm with an upbeat modern anthem that’s both captivating and instantly memorable. At the very top of her game as she gears up to drop her forthcoming album, both songs come from an artist with free-flowing creativity and the talent to back it up.
