Born in Seoul, Korea and now living in the Malaysian city of Kuala Lumpur, artist Dae Kim is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and filmmaker. With a sound rooted in ethereal soundscapes, his music offers a serene atmosphere to get completely lost in.
His ambient electronica sound is mostly created with key-based instruments ranging from various synthesisers and rhodes. As he’s developed his sound, he’s expanded his composition’s sonic textures by adding more guitar and accordion arrangements into his work.
Refusing to be boxed into one particular genre or style, his musical outlook remains incredibly versatile with the common thread being rich and immersive audio worlds that offer emotion and peace. A staple of the mü-nest imprint roster, one of his recent tracks, “A Song For The Wounded” has been given the remix treatment by artist and label-mate D & the Compass.
Previously working as a laboratory chemist, D & the Compass took a new path and became an electronic musician who’s made a name in the IDM and ambient house scene. Putting his rhythmic spin on Dae Kim’s stunning ambient piece, with the remix D & the Compass adds drive with a thumping kick and evolving beats adding a new energy to the original song while retaining the beauty of its composition.
