London-based D’Addio is the artistic project from Italian multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer-songwriter Giulia Scarantino. After years in her band ShirleySaid, formed in 2001 and releasing two EPs and the full-length album Metro Lovers, she now ventures out on her own course as a solo artist.
With love, authenticity and having no real sense of belonging she was taken to new imaginary lands without borders or the shame of being vulnerable. With the new project she offers a hello, goodbye and a welcome to the limitless new possibilities that are yet to come. On her debut single as a solo act, the track “A Separation”, she delivered her introduction and took her first steps on the new path.
Now she brings us her first full-length album, with the eponymous debut LP D’Addio. Featuring eleven brand new original compositions all written, performed, produced and mixed by D’Addio herself, with mastering handled by Fabrizio De Carolis at Reference Studio in Rome, on the album D’Addio delivers a epic sonic journey through her musical mind as a solo artist. Unchained by other band members and allowed to let her creativity flow, the new album oozes originality and is full of melodic writing, colourful instrumentation and a captivating sound wrapped up in complex arrangements and rhythmic shifts.
Creating a dreamy indie pop atmosphere, D’Addio offers a rare sense of intimacy in her sound and connectivity to her as an artist. Full of deep textures and background samples such as sirens and hums, she builds an immersive listening experience that draws you in from the moment you press play.
