Bristol-based composer and saxophonist Oli Morris was originally born in Northbridge, California and spent his childhood living in California and Connecticut before moving to the UK at age eleven. Frequently compared to artists such as Shabaka Hutchings, Bob Reynolds and Chris Cheek, when Oli moved to Bristol he threw himself headfirst into the local music scene, attending and hosting local jam sessions at venues all over the city.
With a punchy and upbeat sound, his music is packed with rhythm and intricate sax leads, floating between the various facets of jazz. Last year he made his formal introduction as an artist, releasing his debut single “Bimal” in the summer of 2021 to critical acclaim.
Racking up thousands of streams and being listed as Bristol Music Radio’s Track of the Week as well as winning over fans and tastemakers in the process, he now shares his follow up offering with his sophomore single titled “Flyer”.
The highly anticipated release takes inspiration from the artist’s Californian roots, delivering a hazy nostalgia-tinged track that coincides with the artist’s feature on Emilie Sande’s new album. Smooth and laid back, on “Flyer”, Oli Morris demonstrates his talents as a performer as well as a crafter of blissful jazz compositions. Full of groove and colourful melodic work, “Flyer” shows a new artist that’s sure to make waves as he shares more and more of his sonic vision.
