Dream Pop from Jess Porter

Melbourne-based artist Jess Porter fronts his own dreamy indie folk outfit with backing from bass player Bryce Novotny and Evan Lee on drums. Jess has been performing since 2012 after recording and releasing his debut album, The Surrealist, while on the road across North and South America.

The multi-instrumentalist takes influence from artists such as Bon Iver, St Vincent, Richard Dawson and Circa Survive to create his own brand of euphoric music. His recent single “Patterns” sees the band spin an energetic rock focused sound while they explore dynamic intensity paired with a powerful instrumentation arrangement.

Following on from that release, with their latest work they offer a stripped back minimalist effort with the new single “Overplayed”. With a warm and ethereal synth-based soundscape, Jess Porter’s soaring vocals fly above delivering his hypnotic melodic writing on a song that’s truly immersive and inspiring.

Recorded with longtime collaborator and producer Nick Russell, the opening of the song features a delicate vocal choir to set the tone for the rest of the track. Soothing and captivating, with “Overplayed” Jess Porter shares a blissful sonic tapestry that’s full of bright textures and stunning leads.

Commenting on the single, Jess shares, “This song’s inspired by a friend I made on a plane from the UK to Australia mid-pandemic. Despite my anxiety at the huge change I was going through, he gave me hope that it’s possible to find your tribe no matter what corner of the world you’re in.”
