Losun is the alias of Spanish multi-instrumentalist Mateo Guidali who, when going through hard times a couple of years ago threw himself headfirst into this new project. While he’d previously played with a band called Zen Parks, rather than making music for enjoyment, the Losun venture was born out of necessity, using the creative pursuit as a therapeutic outlet and allowing the music to heal his soul.
Drawing influence from pop and rock outfits such as Tame Impala, alt J, Portugal the Man, Glass Animals and Jungle, Losun creates infectiously catchy modern alternative pop music that’s full of rhythm and poignant lyricism. Always working to mix up his sound, he fuses in other styles such as lofi or electronic to make each new track stand out and take on its own energy.
With his first handful of songs, the Madrid-based artist covered themes of anxiety and mental health, wanting to tackle such issues to help normalise their discussion as more people and artists are slowly being more vocal about it. Not only serving as a cathartic process for himself, with his music he offers an open hand to everyone else going through struggles and the optimism that togetherness brings.
Now he brings us his latest work with the new single “Crossroad”, taking a new direction with his musical outlook and creative vision. Taking on a more emotional stance, with his new single he writes about meeting someone at a crossroad and the sense of split directions they bring, both metaphorically and literally, from having to part ways.
Adding touches of psychedelic rock to the instrumentation, while maintaining his hook-driven vocal writing and bouncy grooving energy, with “Crossroad” Losun shares another indie pop hit with bags of commercial potential. Recorded at Riverman Studios in Spain, the single was produced and mixed by Brais Ruibal in the UK, together they deliver an upbeat jam with thoughtful lyrics.
