Hailing from Chicago, The Keener Family is a dream pop duo who have pioneered and championed a unique style of ambient country music. Members Christopher and Aubrey Ann Keener combine their vocals on stunning soundscapes full of atmospheric textures and delicate instrumentation dripping in a reverb that stretches for miles.
Previously working as a loose collective of musicians and writers since their debut in 2019 with the mini-album Tender Beast, more recently the project has been streamlined with Christopher and Aubrey Ann at the helm. With a shared creative vision and the songwriting and performance talents to back it up, they’re now venturing out as a duo to bring their compositions to life and share them with their growing fanbase both with studio releases and from the stage.
Their most recent release serves as a turning point for their new ambitions and plans, the new double single titled Honest released via Sleeping Rock Sound Archive. The EP features opening song “Holiday” as well as the title track “Honest”, both offering The Keener Family’s deep and emotive songwriting delivered via expansive and blissfully immersive instrumentation arrangements.
On “Honest” they lay down a stirring piece that explores themes of hatred, healing and forgiveness on a reflective track that sees singer Chris Keener’s warm vocals drift amongst a floating sea of gently droning synths and sonic touches. With the B-Side track “Holiday”, The Keener Family inject an elegant rhythm to their sound on a song that alludes to family tension, contrasted by an uplifting aesthetic to create a truly euphoric listening experience.
Linking with renowned mixing engineer Alex DeGroot and Josh Eustis on mastering who apply their skills with a deft touch deserving of the music, The Keener Family share a new release that shows an act with everything to offer, on a release that’s even more rewarding with each listen.
