Irish outfit Anie Valentine have been performing and recording their own brand of pop punk music since 2020. Drawing influence from artists such as The Pixies, Hole and Nirvana to Halsey, Tessa Violet and The Wrecks, the Dublin-based band captures the nostalgia and gritty energy of 80s grunge sounds, wrapped up in their modern pop-leaning songwriting.
Comprised of frontwoman Anie Valentine, lead guitarist Matthew Redmond, drummer Chloe Corcoran Hanlon, and Jordan Crawford on bass, the group are all best friends that attend BIMM Dublin, with Matthew being a graduate of the music school. The four-piece act has spent the last year honing their sound, writing material and cutting their teeth at two headline shows as well as numerous support slots.
Now they’ve made their studio introduction with the release of their debut single “Ending Things”. In equal parts an homage to the band’s influences from the past, while also pushing the sound of their own original angsty bedroom pop punk, their first offering is the perfect taste of what they bring.
A cathartic release for singer Anie’s pent-up frustrations with past relationships, “Ending Things” blends crunching guitar work and punchy drums and bass to load the track with a raw energy delivered in a polished aesthetic. An instantly catchy modern pop rock hit, with “Ending Things” Anie Valentine make a statement that they’re here to soundtrack your aggravations with this superb debut effort.
