Hailing from the Philadelphia area, Max Swan is a rising neo-soul artist who ventures into modern music revolving around jazz. As a classically-trained saxophonist, he’s studied under the legendary Saturday Night Live band leader Lenny Pickett where he developed as a vocalist and hip hop producer to become the all-round accomplished musical talent we see today.
As a genre-beating artist, he uses his broad range of musical skills to craft his own distinctive style of ‘electrosoul’. Fusing the skilled musicianship and improvisational ethos of jazz with contemporary soul, R&B and hip hop, he creates his own unique sound of impressive instrumental prowess wrapped up in catchy writing with commercial appeal.
Following a hiatus that lasted several years, 2021 was an incredibly successful time for Max Swan. The artist returned with his sophomore record Slow Jail, released to critical acclaim and spent time in the prestigious RnB Radar List. However, as a live performer, Max knew there was more to be done with his new album.
Commenting on his thoughts at the time, he shares “As I worked through Slow Jail during its creation, I was intensely focused on making music that would sound even better live than it is on the record. I believe in this music, and it’s my time to serve it, now that it’s out.”
Building on the momentum of his fruitful return, he’s breathed new life into Slow Jail by releasing a live EP and accompanying video sessions. One such video session features a full band performance of “Woohoo” recorded live at The Church”.
Armed with just his vocals and his saxophone, Max Swan blows away with his stunning performance of the song. A grooving and exquisite song in its own right, with the live performance, Max Swan intertwines his smooth soulful vocals delivering his emotive writing with his virtuoso sax leads that soar beautifully above the arrangement of talented backing musicians.
