Originally hailing from Colombia, Camilo Toston is now based in London and making music under his new moniker Departure. Drawing on his Latin roots, he blends delicate instrumental landscapes with grooving rhythms to create his own original downtempo sound full of colourful melodic leads and piquant sonic textures.
Having made his introduction as an artist last year with his debut track “Hipocampo”, earlier this year he dropped the new single “Calle 63”, once again showcasing his unique style and brilliant creative vision. Now he’s back with the follow up to his last release, the brand new single titled “Hay Luz”.
The song’s name is a translation of ‘there is light’, a phrase that forms the context of the sound and the driving force of the composition process. With his latest effort, Departure lays down a truly intriguing sound that sees the artist fuse traditional South American sound with traditional European instruments all wrapped up in his own electronic aesthetic.
An intricate snapping beat pairs with grooving and sliding bass lines to form the energy of the track while an elegant arrangement of woodwind and staccato string plucks combine to create an uplifting sound. Commenting on the new song, the artist shares, “I wanted the song to remind me, and hopefully you, that no matter how bad the current moment might feel, the turn of the tide might be around the corner, you have to keep up hope.”
