Zahra is a twenty-year-old singer-songwriter from the United States who turned to her love for journaling, playing the piano and creative writing during a low point in her life which led to her making her own music. Last year saw her drop her well-received debut EP titled I Feel Weird, which she followed up with the singles “Energy” and “Feel Small”.
With I Feel Weird, Zahra crafted a stunning acoustic release entirely by herself making use of her vocals and harmonies backed up by an arrangement formed by her piano work and some pads and strings. Taking its name from the phrase Zahra used to say to her friends when she was feeling anxious or depressed, the EP saw the artist open up her feelings and allow herself to be vulnerable while forming her artistic vision.
Now Zahra brings us her brand new EP, called in my company, a release written about taking time for self-reflection and healing in your own company. Starting out with a goal of creating her most authentic work to date, Zahra unexpectedly found herself spending a year living on her own in a new country as she began the writing process of the new EP.
“I aim to make music that is as authentic and meaningful as the songs I connect to from my favorite artists,” she shares.
Finding solace in solitude, Zahra discovered that being alone had become a cathartic situation with the time spent in her own company becoming a medicine for her. Allowing herself to grow and become a more authentic version of herself has translated into her new EP offering exactly what she set out to create.
Across in my company, Zahra lays down her stunning and melodically charged vocal work with the five new tracks showing the depth of her songwriting talent and knack for creating an original sound that builds a true connection between the artist and the listener.
Commenting on her music, she offers, “With my music, I hope to build connection with others. I want people to feel my music. I like imperfection, I like emotionally delivered lyrics, and I like pushing the boundaries of my expression and creativity.”
