Hailing from South London, David Taro is an artist that blends elements of indie pop, rock and blues to create his own heartfelt and timeless sound. His writing has covered everything from fairytales gone awry to the footballer Thierry Henry as well as the occasional love song, characterised by his witty and often deprecating lyricism.
Having grown up listening to artists such as Billy Joel, The Beatles and Queen, he penned his first composition at just eleven years old, aptly titled “Hey Bohemian Piano Man”. Towards his late teens he discovered blues music and added inspiration from artists like Randy Newman to his own sound.
Coming from a background of musical pedigree, David’s grandfather was a semi-professional musician while his father and uncle played in the late 60s outfit Grapefruit, one of the first acts signed to The Beatles’ Apple imprint. His own musical journey has seen him write for and perform with bands from Britpop style groups in school to the soulful rock n’ roll band The Big Red.
With his solo work however, he made his artistic introduction under his own name with his debut EP last year with Firework, followed up by the full-length release Everything Will Be Ok later in 2021. Now he’s back with a new three-track single with the release of “Judy”.
Capturing the essence of his charming indie pop sound, “Judy” recounts a day in the life of Judy who has never had dreams, following the idea that if you don’t have dreams, they can’t get broken. Paired with two other tracks “Any Time You Like” and “Used To Know”, with his new release, David Taro shares his delightful songwriting wrapped up in his enduring sound of delicate guitar-based arrangements and memorable, melodic vocal leads.
