DJ and producer Chris Marcinikiewicz, working under the name The GOAT, has made himself one of Vancouver’s finest electronic music exports, justifying his moniker’s connotations in the process. Performing music throughout Western Canada since the early 2000s, he’s shared the stage with a plethora of notable artists such as Chris Liebing, Layton Giordani, D-Unity, Ramon Tapia, Kevin Saunderson, Dave Angel, and Claude Young.
First making his introduction as The GOAT in 2016, he released the debut EP titled Flout which entered Beatport’s Top 100 Techno releases chart and hit the top 10 of the Top 100 Minimal Releases. Following it up with eight singles and three more EPs, he now brings us his debut full-length release with the new album The Details Are Vague.
Commenting on the new record, he shares, “This music on The Details Are Vague didn’t come from an easy place. These last few years were very emotionally taxing and there was a lot of uncertainty with it. As we all went through it, I felt like I wanted to tap into that. I wanted the unease of this past year to live inside the music. So you’ll hear a lot of depth to the design.”
Adding, “A lot of techno draws from dystopian imagery and art concepts and things. I just wanted it to sound human. Nothing about it is pretty. And a lot of it will have frailty to it. It reflects how delicate we are as humans in life. But also how fickle people can be towards each other.”
Featuring twelve new tracks, on his new album he lays down his distinct sound of potent techno cuts with of dark atmosphere and textures. Full of driving rhythms and deep sonic tapestries with industrial touches, on The Details Are Vague, The GOAT spins a wildly immersive and original electronic journey that confirms the hype around his stellar music career.
With two follow up EPs hosting international remixes of the tracks from the album, The GOAT continues to deliver his creative vision in prolific fashion. JFK of MSTRKRFT, Risa Taniguchi, Joel West, ANNA V, MÆDON and Alex Bau will all feature on the new EPs, putting their own flair on The GOAT’s tracks.
