“Red Room” by mære

mære is the music project led by producer Cee that features various collaborators to create graceful and captivating alternative R&B. Taking inspiration from artists such as Syd, Kelela, Tierra Whack and FKA Twigs, mære offers laid back experimental vibes that pairs deep lyricism with chilled out beats and washy synth-based instrumentation.

Bringing together creatives from all over the world, members from Italy, Germany, the USA and Russia are all connected via the enigmatic common thread of front person Cee and their shared social values of feminism, racial equality and anti-capitalism. Featured in the line up is Russian singer Gau who Cee met at Karaoke in Moscow towards the end of last year.

Using music as a therapeutic outlet and a creative way to express themselves, as a non-binary person, Cee is fascinated by the concept of identity and explores this sonically with the mære endeavour. The project was first born in June of 2021 and made its wider introduction earlier this year with the debut single “Pretty Crash”.

Now they share the follow up to the debut single with the sophomore track “Red Room”, a dreamy experimental R&B outing that maintains accessible and compelling melodic writing fused with a highly original overall sound. Lifted from their upcoming debut EP, “Red Room” serves as the lead single and showcases the dazzling sonic vision of Cee and the mære collective.

Commenting on the new single, Cee shares, “Red Room is in part about a feeling of isolation, caused maybe by depression or some external factors. We left that open to interpretation, as it was written in Moscow right when the war started, and both me and Gau felt the influence of that uncertainty about the future.”
