LHW drops debut album

Hailing from Brooklyn, Layton H Weedeman is a musician and artist now making music under the LHW alias. Previously as a drummer he’s performed at high profile shows at the SXSW and CMJ Festivals and his psychedelic blues rock band Courtesy Tier have had their tracks featured in hit television series such as Kingdom, Bates Motel, and Secrets & Lies.

Taking influence from golden era hip hop artists including DJ Premier, DJ Mark the 45 King and J Dilla, as well as Afro-Cuban inspirations from Xiomara Laugart and Juan-Carlos Formell, LHW spins grooving beat-driven lo-fi instrumental soundscapes that offer a soundtrack to everyday life as well as engaging pieces of music in their own right.

Now signed to Yellow Couch Recordings as a solo artist, he’s linked with Loisel Machín Rodriguez to create his debut offering under the LHW moniker with the new album titled Interludes. First introduced in 2018 by Cuban artist Roberto Poveda, LHW and Loisel Machín Rodriguez both draw on their different backgrounds and musical experiences, brought together by their shared love of hip hop to create a unique sound on the Interludes album.

With LHW providing the beats and samples and Loisel Machín Rodriguez laying down electric and upright bass, the album was produced by LHW alongside their original link, Robert Poveda. Recorded and mixed at Yellow Couch Recordings in Brooklyn by LHW and Omer Leibovitz, the release offers a cohesive and free flowing sound of perfectly crafted laid back jams.

Across the eight-track release, LHW captures the essence of the lo-fi hip hop sound with the instrumental flair of Loisel Machín Rodriguez adding piquant touches to the vibe to create something both familiar and original on this worthy debut effort on the LHW journey.
