Indie Folk from Hazlett

Originally hailing from Brisbane, now based in Stockholm, Hazlett spent years ghostwriting and playing in various rhythm sections where he developed as a songwriter and honed his craft as a musician. Since 2016, he’s ventured out as a solo musician with the release of his debut single “Lowdown, Lay It On” and has gone on to release a string of well-received singles, 2 stellar EPs and toured across Europe and Australia.

Having built a close family of people in his adoptive home, he shares, “As much as Hazlett is me, I think anything good in life is better when you let people in”. At the start of the pandemic in 2020, Hazlett and his friends decided to put everything on hold and start work on the artist’s highly anticipated debut record, set to be released on the Nettwerk imprint.

Now he brings us his brand new single “Oh Downhill”, the title track from his latest EP which is the A Side of his upcoming full-length album. Offering a stunningly poignant acoustic-backed sound, on “Oh Downhil”, Hazlett lays down the very best of his exquisite songwriting talent and vocal performance panache.

Paired with the single comes the music video directed by Maren Langer, reflecting the moving sentiments of the song beautifully. Commenting on the single, Hazlett offers, “I don’t know what is ingrained in human nature that makes us run back to things that are bad for us, people that don’t like us or compare ourselves to strangers’ lives.”

Adding, “When you look back after a moment like this happens it’s so confusing. ‘Makes no sense why I cared about you’. But in that moment, it’s all you can care about and all you can focus on. This song is a little homage to this broken little world we are all trying to swim in.”
