Hailing from Ottawa, Canada, indie pop duo Wotts have been going from strength-to-strength over the last year with their infectiously catchy, synth-driven sound. Formed by multi-instrumentalist Jayem and guitarist and bass player Ricky 100, the pair have cemented their reputation as a rising act in hot demand, gracing the stages of RBC Bluesfest, Canadian Music Week and Junofest and gaining support from a range of radio stations and tastemakers along the way.
Making their introduction last year, they dropped their debut track “Before”, which they’ve followed up with a string of critically acclaimed singles. Off the back of their collaborative release with fellow Canadian outfit The Desert Island Big Band “6 Shooter”, they bring us their latest single with “NO TAKE BACKS”.
Channeling the energy and sonic aesthetic of artists such as Tame Impala and Dayglow, with their new track they lay down their trademark upbeat indie pop sound full of instantly memorable melodic leads and a shimmering instrumental backing. Packing a grooving rhythmic punch, they paint a vibrant musical image with subtle psychedelic tinges, all filtered through a sepia-toned sonic lens.
Uplifting, anthemic and utterly charming, it’s impossible not to love Wotts and their new single “NO TAKE BACKS”. From their humble beginnings as a a hip hop-inspired outfit, their latest track represents the pinnacle of their artistic direction and serves to showcase their exceptional pop songwriting and production talents.
Commenting on the track, Jayem offers, “I think that style is becoming our goal more and more. We love how artists like Tame Impala, M83 and Brothertiger can deliver something catchy, but also timeless. I’ve got no shame saying that we like making music that can lift people’s moods, even if it’s only for a minute. If someone can vibe to this song and forget about the bad stuff for a bit, that’s mission accomplished for us.” With Ricky 100 adding, “Indie Pop is our goal, but I think we’re having a lot of fun with exploring new
sounds and really trying to build an atmosphere with our music.”
