Coming from Dorset in the UK, Dvrk Romantics is the musical duo formed by writers Micky Waters and Rachel Di Biaso who have been collaborating on various projects over the years in the sync and advertising scene. Drawing on their passion for blues, indie music and glam rock, they craft their own unique dream pop sound full of atmosphere and cinematic tones, “We both love Tarantino, Wes Anderson, Western and Cinema, so this is carried across in the music, and the visuals of the band,” they share.
Both with extensive sonic experience from their previous endeavours, Micky is the bass player from the hugely successful and award winning rock outfit The Answer, having supported superstar acts such as the Rolling Stones, AC/DC and Alter Bridge and selling over half a million records along the way. Rachel has applied her talents to many different roles in the industry, working as a manager, songwriter and creative consultant to the likes of Christina Novelli, Rising star Mauvey, Lloren, Sohodolls and Leighton Allen of The Hoosiers.
Working together in Micky’s home studio taking each composition from conception through to completed artistic work, he takes the production reins of the Dvrk Romantics project, with Rachel handling the melodic and lyrical writing. Offering deep and immersive soundscapes to back their elegant and hook-driven leads, they comment, “We wanted to create music that was not too literal, a get-up-and-go, something that really makes you stop and think… wow that’s never been done before.”
“We love the combination of rocking out – with high energy and a full band, combined with cinematic tracks that focus purely on atmosphere, ambience and emotion. The juxtaposition of the two is exactly what Dvrk Romantics is all about,” Rachel says.
Unveiling the Dvrk Romantics name earlier this year, they released their debut single “Love in a Time of Danger”, a stunning ethereal pop outing that nods to the sounds of Massive Attack, Groove Armada and Anna Calvi. Weaving a spacey sonic tapestry with bass-heavy instrumentation, piquant synth touches and capped by Rachel’s floating vocal delivery, with “Love in a Time of Danger” the pair lay down a graceful indie-galactic sound on a worthy debut single.
