Coming from the small Holy Island off Anglesey in Wales, Holy Coves are an indie rock band on the rise. The five-piece outfit is made up of talented musicians including frontman Scott Marsden on vocals and guitar, guitarist John Lawrence, Owain Ginsberg on guitar and synths, bass player John Hughes and drummer Spike T Smith.
Since 2008 they’ve been sharing their sensational music which captures the charm of Britpop and alternative music framed in a psych rock vibe. Following the release of their debut EP The Lizzies Ynys Môn, they’ve shared a string of works that showcase their euphoric rock sound.
Ten years since their debut full-length with the 2012 record titled Peruvian Mistake, this year they’ve returned with a bunch of stellar singles in the build up to the highly anticipated sophomore album Druids And Bards. Now bringing us their long awaited second LP, they share the nine-track release dropped via Welsh imprint Yr Wyddfa Records.
Recorded at Penhesgyn Hall Studio on Anglesey, the songs on the album were mixed and mastered by renowned Texas-based producer Erik Wofford, who’s previously worked with the likes of The Black Angels and Explosions In The Sky, who the band were connected with through long time friend and producer David Wrench.
Across their new album they lay down the very best of their storming indie rock sound dripping with delicate psychedelic touches. Full of epic impactful instrumentation of punching drums, driving bass and soaring lead guitar, Scott Marsden’s vocals deliver captivating lead lines on Druids And Bards that serve to demonstrate his talent as a songwriter and singer on a truly stunning new album from a band at the top of their game.
