London-based alternative rock duo Rival Karma originally started out in 2018 as a four-piece outfit. As they started to gain some traction with a handful of gigs lined up and a European tour, two members left the band with vocalist and guitarist Martin Roux and drummer Piergiorgio “PJ” Ciarla deciding to carry on as a pair.
Despite halving the group’s line up, they showed no signs of it slowing them down with the two musicians continuing to tour across Europe and the West coast of the USA. In 2019 they made a statement with their debut EP A.Y.N released to critical acclaim and opening up for Reignwolf on some of their European shows.
Taking influence from artists such as Queens of the Stone Age, The Black Keys and Dave Matthews Band, they create their own driving guitar-based rock music, delivering a raucous sound between just the two of them. Earning recognition for their music, since 2020 they’ve been NAMM 2020’s SoundBrenner Artists, received extensive radio support and racked up hundreds of thousands of streams of their songs which have landed in top playlists on Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music.
Now, continuing to go from strength-to-strength, they bring us their brand new EP titled Powerduism. With touring and playing music live stitched into the very fabric of the duo’s sonic DNA, on their sophomore EP, Rival Karma set out to capture all the emotions that stem from their day to day lives on the road wrapped up in their high-octane modern rock sound.
Full to the brim of swaggering guitar riffs, big in-your-face drums and storming lead vocal work, across the four-track release they lay down the very best of their sound. Linking up once again with renowned producer Sam Miller, who’s previously worked with the likes of Razorlight and Paloma Faith, to bring Powerduism to life, with their second EP the duo deliver an infectious and energising release that unleashes buckets of pent up frustration from all the live music shows cancelled over the last two years.
