First meeting in Texas as childhood friends, musicians Phillip Thompson and Emily Hamilton have more recently ventured out as the duo known as machmarie. Originally developing their artistic talents separately, Emily started her sonic journey singing hymns and folk numbers as Phillip trained as a vocalist, songwriter and producer, after ten years they reunited to form the project and bring about their creative vision.
Taking influence from a wide range of artists such as Sade, Toni Braxton, Beyoncé, B.I.G.,Tupac, Dr. Dre, Big K.R.I.T and P!nk, and drawing on their respective musical abilities, they’ve combined to write and produce more than seventy-five tracks. Fusing elements of hip hop and alternative music, they craft a genre-bending sound full of rhythm, atmospheric instrumental arrangements and compelling vocal delivery to craft an immersive listening experience.
Last month they made their explosive entrance with their debut single titled “No Sympathy”, a beat-driven and engrossing track dripping in originality. Trading vocal lines of smooth ethereal melodies and laid back rap flows, they spin a gripping sound that’s both dreamy and energising.
Infused with empowering sentiments of self-belief, “No Sympathy” offers an anthemic sound with a rousing message while serving to showcase the songwriting, performance and production prowess of the pair on a track that makes an instant impact.
Testament to the exciting promise of machmarie’s trajectory, their first outing saw them work with multi-platinum and Grammy winning ‘Q-Beatz’ Kubie as a producer on the truly superb “No Sympathy”.
