Hailing from Limerick in Ireland, Left On Read is an indie rock outfit formed by brothers Adam and Jack Reeves on drums and lead guitar respectively and close friend Steven Tynan on vocals, keys and guitar. Together, the three-piece combine to create an original indie sound full of rhythm, compelling vocal leads and touches of retro vibes.
Initially started out from informal rehearsal jams, their progression to creating the band was an organic journey stemming from their sonic chemistry. “It was a no brainer to start a more formal group with our best mates. We were just having so much fun,” they share.
Venturing out as a group in 2020, they started writing their own original material, drawing on their influences of Muse and Queen. The next year, based on their first four demo tracks they were awarded the Creative Ireland’s ‘Made in Limerick’ grant, allowing them to start work on their debut record.
Now, after dropping their first three singles this year, and recently winning the 2022 Dolores O’Riordan Music Bursary Award, they bring us their latest work with their brand new track titled “Duet”. With their new single they offer a grooving indie rock tone that showcases a new side of their sound as the band leans into subtle jazz stylings.
Full of shuffling rhythm, piquant lead guitar work and a commanding vocal performance, on “Duet” Left On Read deliver a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable new single as they continue to go from strength-to-strength with each new move.
Framed by the context of inner conflict and being your own biggest champion as well as most damning critic, the band comments on the song, “It’s those two sides having it out and eventually having to accept that they’re stuck with each other. It’s a song of beginnings, having hopes and expectations of yourself but struggling for self assurance and the courage to take the leap. This song is all about coming to terms with the fear.”
