Hailing from Melbourne in Australia, R. F. Coleman is an exciting new artist who’s just made his debut. Before pursuing his musical ambitions, he’s had a colourful life to say the least. He’s directed award-winning videos, written for global publications such as the New York Times, VICE and the Guardian and even covered the Thai coup where he managed to put a hit out on himself after befriending a gangster in a military-run cocaine bar.
Suffice to say he’s now sober and celebrated 528 days of sobriety when he composed his debut single “I Couldn’t Trust”. Working with co-writer and long-long friend and artist Joshua Moriarty of Miami Horror and Telenova, R. F. Coleman enlisted Scott Horscroft, who’s previous credits include the likes of Silverchair, DMA’s, Empire of the Sun and The Presets among others, to produce the track.
Laying down a grooving indie pop sound, with his debut single the artist shares his infectiously catchy writing wrapped up in a gentle, euphoric style. Driven by a snapping beat, lifted by a piquant instrumental blend and capped by his softly delivered soaring vocal leads, “I Couldn’t Trust” sees a brand new artist hit the bullseye with his first outing on a truly anthemic song.
Paired with the single is a music video directed by former ‘Neighbours’ director Jono Dutton and shot by award-winning director of photography Chas Mackinnon. Mirroring the theme of the song, the video captures the journey of the artist as he transitions from a wild man to a sober artist to provide a captivating visual accompaniment to a sensational debut single.
