Originally growing up in the UK before moving to the Israeli city of Tel Aviv at a young age, GABRIELLA is an emerging artist who’s recently made her entrance with her debut single titled “Stranger to You”. After moving to a new country with a different culture and language, GABRIELLA used music as a vehicle for adjusting to her new surroundings and fitting in.
Armed with her powerful vocal talent and hook-filled songwriting, she offers her own unique pop sound. Bringing us her debut single “Stranger to You”, she’s made her introduction with her dazzling first song, full of bright melodic leads and subtly grooving beat to make an infectiously catchy and worthy debut effort.
After an exciting 2022 that saw her take her first steps as a fully fledged solo artist, we sat down with her to find out more about her inspirations, her debut single and what she’s got lined up for this year. Check out our interview with GABRIELLA below.
Hey Gabriella, thanks for taking the time to chat to us! How are you doing?
I’m great thanks, how are you?
Very well thanks. What was your biggest highlight of 2022?
So in 2022, I took a huge leap of faith and decided to share my music to the world. It was a defining moment in my life – or as I like to call it, “coming out of the musical closet”. It was an exciting and nerve-racking time, but ultimately rewarding experience. The response was overwhelming, and I could not have asked for a better year.
How did you find taking the steps to make your debut as a solo artist this year?
Taking the steps to make my debut as a solo artist this year was an exciting, but challenging, journey. It took a lot of hard work, dedication, and passion to make it happen. The process of creating the music and visuals was extremely rewarding, and I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished so far and the amazing people who I got to work with. I’m excited to have shared my work with the world, and am looking forward to the future!
How did you first get into making your own music?
For years, I have been creating music and singing only for those close to me, like my family, children, and husband. This, however, changed when I came across a remarkable phrase: “art is not complete until it is shared”. Thus, I have declared myself an artist, thereby making it essential for my art to be shared with the world. Giving inspiration to people as so many artists have given me. Creative ideas, talents and abilities is endless. All we have to do is to keep it alive. This means encouraging one another, collaborating and allowing others to showcase their talents for the benefit of the group. Reaching out to people in need via music, offering our words of encouragement is one of the best gifts we can give to another. One can’t be afraid to express and to embrace your own uniqueness.
Above all, always be kind, generous and strive to make the world a better place. And what better way to do so, with music.
As someone who moved countries at a young age, how would you say music has helped you with the changes of culture and language?
Music was a powerful tool for me as I adjusted to my new life in a new country. It helped me connect to the culture and language of my new home, and it also gave me comfort in a strange land. Music allowed me to embrace new experiences and explore my own cultural identity. It was a way for me to connect with the people of my new country, learning about their customs and cultures through songs both traditional and contemporary. Additionally, it provided me with a form of solace, containing strong feelings of nostalgia as I remembered and connected with my previous life in my home country.
Which artist do you draw most inspiration from?
Amy Winehouse, I feel a strong connection to the late Amy Winehouse and her incredible talent. Her songs, her powerful and emotive vocals and the perfect contrast between her lyrics and the music melody, coupled with her unique persona, have solidified her as a once-in-a-generation talent.
What would you say is the perfect setting for listeners to enjoy your sound?
Definitely not through phone speakers (:
I’d say the perfect spot to enjoy my music would be a calm evening at home, a nice chic lounge bar, or while cooking and entertaining.
What artist have you been listening to most recently?
Anderson .Paak who I love, the Neighborhood which I covered lately (on my Instagram).
What’s the main thing you want people to get out of listening to your music?
I hope my music can encourage others to explore new feelings, broaden their spectrum of emotions, and simply appreciate life and enjoy.
What’s been your favourite live show so far?
I believe I will start preforming my own music later on this year, as I’m a newbie in the music industry.
How do you try and connect with an audience when you’re performing live?
I like to interact with the audience and make them feel a part of the show, showing them appreciation and respect for liking what I do.
Who would be 3 artists to headline your dream festival? And where would it be?
Definitely London, Anderson .Paak, John Legend that I had mentioned, and the queen Beyonce!
Do you have any advice for a new artist wanting to follow your footsteps?
Enjoy the ride! Have patience, baby steps and one learns more and more every day.
Finally, what can we expect from you in 2023?
I’m definitely looking forward to this year, as I plan to release an EP and record more of my music, as well as continue exploring the music industry.
