Hailing from North Carolina, V of 40M is the pioneering hip hop artist who’s renowned as the architect of the ‘revolutionary rap’ movement. Also known as the “Big M”, the artist has been making waves with his sensational releases that have been racking up tens of thousands of streams and seen him featured by several leading underground platforms.
Recently venturing out as V of 40M, in February last year he dropped the track “Way Back (Warning)” and now brings us his latest release with the new single titled “PWR”. Presented by XLM+, this time V of 40M links up with viral beat maker Arab Mxfia to produce the track as well as featuring artists Hippie G and 40M Tye.
On “PWR”, the artist lays down a hard-hitting modern hip hop cut packed full of punching beats and fierce vocal flow. Continuing to operate at the top of his game, V of 40M’s latest track once again showcases his talent as a rapper and the scope of his visionary creative endeavour.
We caught up with him to find out more about his inspirations, his new track and what he’s got lined up for the future. Check out our interview with V of 40M below.
Hey V of 40M, how’s things?
4’s up. Everything’s good, M’s got it lit. We thankful, grateful and appreciative.
What was your highlight of 2022?
Tapping in with some bomb a** brothers and sisters. Heavy on the 4’s.
How did you first get into making your own music?
The Creator. Always been into music and making it was natural – our culture is like that. Was just a matter of time before we figured out the formula to present the message with it.
Which artists do you draw most inspiration from?
Public Enemy, Peter Tosh and Bob Marley.
How else do you find inspiration for your music?
The Creator, the Universe, the Ancestors and my people are all the inspiration we need to make it pop, d*** near everything else is extra. Our history and our potential future you know.
What would you say is the perfect setting for listeners to enjoy your sound?
Anytime, anywhere. Doesn’t matter if it’s the the crib, the car, the club or anywhere else in the world, vibes don’t lie and the M’s got the sauce – turn us up!
You recently dropped “PWR”, how did you find making this track?
It was cool. The Creator, the Universe and the Ancestors did all the work, I’m just glad I didn’t f*** it up you feel me lol.
How was it collaborating with Hippie G and 40M Tye?
When the M’s is in the building, movie. That’s the bros. Hippie G and Tye, extra lit. Big M s***.
What was the message you hoped to get across with this song?
That it’s time for our people to tap in whether you’re in the movement or not. Any and everybody who’s already on timing, link up. Remember though, our people come before ego – we got work to do! We got the formula. F*** the opps, we’re greater factor – always us never them!
What artist have you been listening to most recently?
I’m into older s*** for real but as far as rap – the M’s. Hippie G dropping soon too. I’m say that again, Hippie G dropping soon, bro got mad s*** on deck. 40M Tye on the way as well, bro a super talent you feel me. We cooking up heavy for the people – ya’ll know the vibes.
What’s the main thing you want people to get out of listening to your music?
Motivation, inspiration and information you dig.
What’s been your favourite live show so far?
We have yet to perform any of our new cuts live so when we do we’ll get back to you.
Who would be 3 artists to headline your dream festival? And where would it be?
For a dream festival I need Bob Marley, Public Enemy and the M’s. Definitely would be in DC, preferably right in front of the d*** “White” house lol.
Do you have any advice for a new artist wanting to follow your footsteps?
Yeah, stay sturdy and stay righteous. Winners never quit and quitters never win, the Creator didn’t promise that it would be easy for real. Have a plan and stick to it until the end no matter what.
Finally, what do you have lined up for the rest of 2023?
Big moves, big revolution, big M s***. The 4’s coming to a city near you. We have quite a bit going on including the music so y’all tap in – @Vof40M on all socials.
