SIR-VERE‘s latest record, Lovescope, is a bold exploration of their genre-blending sound that’s been captivating fans for years. The album sees the band expanding their ranks with the addition of singer Ian McEwan, making the outfit a four-piece and allowing for a more varied sound. From the dark-edged laid back trip-hop rhythms of opening track “Angel of Death” to the urgent energy of “Peer Pressure,” to the psych rock aesthetic of the closing song “Bad Choices,” the album takes listeners on a journey through a range of tempos and genres.
The band’s commitment to their unique blend of punk, alternative rock and electronic beats has never wavered, even in the face of industry skepticism. Their uncompromising dedication is evident in the hook-filled writing and witty lyricism that peppers the LP, showcasing their timeless songwriting skills. It’s clear that the band is sticking to their guns, and Lovescope is a testament to their enthralling creative vision.
One of the standout tracks on the album is “Peer Pressure,” the current single, which features a driving beat that’s impossible not to be energised by. The addition of vocalist Ian McEwan is particularly evident on “Lovescope,” the title track, which features compelling vocals that add a new dimension to the band’s sound. The opening song of their live sets and upcoming single, “The Crazies,” is another standout track that showcases the band’s ability to bring their sound to life on stage.
The band’s current lineup is cemented as definitive on this album, with a wider range of moods and influences represented. The band’s musical influences are evident throughout the album, from breaks, acid and electro to guitar-driven indie, metal and punk. Studio chief Gary Morland and Stevie Vega round out the band’s unique sound, trading raw guitar licks and grooving bass lines.
Overall, SIR-VERE’s Lovescope is a triumph of genre-beating experimentation wrapped up in accessible songwriting. The album is a testament to the band’s original sonic vision and unique sound, and it’s sure to please fans both old and new.
