Coming out of the music scene of Dallas, Texas, is a guitarist, singer and songwriter with a lifelong passion for music. With decades of experience under his belt, Paul Bibbins is now stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist, ready to share his high-energy, Jimi Hendrix-inspired, original guitar rock ‘n roll with the world.
His debut EP, Disenchantment at a Distance, is a thrilling introduction to his electrifying sound. The EP opens with the lead single, “Bold, Beautiful…and Long Gone!” Here, Paul takes listeners on a bluesy journey, reminiscent of the legendary Hendrix. The track bursts to life with lightly crunchy guitars, splashy drums and a pulsing bass guitar. Paul’s rich vocals, delivered with a spoken-word pace, add a unique layer to the composition, making it feel like an intimate live performance.
As the song progresses, it’s impossible not to notice the channeling of Hendrix’s style, with slick lead guitar licks fluttering beneath Paul’s smooth vocals. This creates an authentic live music atmosphere that captures the essence of classic rock ‘n roll at its peak.
“Thrill Walk” follows with a gritty tone that instantly grabs your attention as the lead guitar dances above lively drums and grooving basslines. Paul’s guitar work shines here, showcasing his passionate and deft performance. It’s a marvellous instrumental piece that captures the raw energy of rock music.
The title track, “Disenchantment at a Distance (in need of a good song),” launches into an enthralling rock sound with subtle psychedelic undertones. Paul’s voice rises above the layers of instrumentation, before settling into a catchy groove. The track is brimming with fuzzy guitar tones, compelling vocal leads and shuffling drums, demonstrating Paul Bibbins’ songwriting talent.
Closing the EP is “Vista Valley Drift,” a track that immediately wraps listeners in a hazy atmosphere. Buzzing guitar tones and bluesy licks take the forefront, delivering a riff-heavy instrumental jam that’s captivating and mesmeric. It’s the perfect finale to Paul Bibbins’ solo debut, leaving a lasting impression with its raw intensity.
