Although Trine Jørck has only recently stepped out as a solo artist, she’s already a prominent figure in the Danish indie music scene with a decade-long journey in various projects such as JØRCK, Aesther and Nymalet. Her debut single, “Limbo,” introduced her sound last month and now she unveils her latest work with the EP titled Other Shades of Love, sharing her dazzling alternative folk sound and alluring vocals with the world.
This new EP is a collection of four songs that serves up a melodic exploration of the various facets of love. From the dizzying feeling of falling in love to the complexities of long-lasting loyalty and the intensity of love experienced in a single night, Trine Jørck stitches a spectrum of emotions into her charming sound.
Collaborating with producer Asger Techau and co-writer Bjarke Porsmose, the EP take a Nordic melancholy and filters it through a sepia-toned Californian atmosphere, resulting in an enduring and highly enjoyable musical experience from start to finish. Taking cues from the production styles of 90s artists like Beck and The Cardigans, with influences drawn from Emmylou Harris and Elvis, Other Shades of Love presents a superb snapshot of Trine Jørck’s sonic vision.
Opened by “Hollywood Hills,” the EP starts with playful guitar plucks and the lively taps of drums to set an upbeat soundscape capped with delicate accented notes. Warm bass tones fill out the sound as Trine’s smooth vocals dance above as the chords changes flow towards the chorus where bright vocal leads spin instantly catchy lines to craft an heartwarming and uptempo slice of pop-focused indie folk music.
“Just A Game” smoulders with mellow percussive snaps and lilting guitar layers that wraps around Trine’s gentle vocal delivery as walking bass lines pulse below. With an intimate aesthetic and timeless songwriting, it’s a truly beautiful song that showcases the tender side of Trine Jørck’s compelling musical output.
With her debut single “Limbo,” she spins an atmospheric fabric threaded with soft guitar plucks and hushed vocals carrying poignant lyricism via subtly melancholic melodies. The distant beat of the drums fade in as sweet backing vocal swells form a dreamy sound to perfectly capture her innovative take on the alternative folk style.
Closing the EP with “Waiting For The Sun,” the artist lays down a grooving beat and plodding bass notes for her elegant vocals to float above as shimmering guitar touches and sonic textures drape a smokey haze over the arrangement. With a laid back energy, a shifting blend of lightly gritty guitars contrasted by bright piano and memorable melodic leads, it’s a stellar sound that offers a stunning final moment of Trine Jørck’s spellbinding sound. It’s a truly sensational first EP from a solo artist taking the exciting first steps on what’s sure to be a thrilling musical adventure and we can’t wait to see what’s she’s got in store for the rest of 2024 and beyond.
