Nexxus 604 releases new EP

Nexxus 604 is the alias of dance music producer Dmitry Smirnov, whose unique background stems from his early education in music, his DJ career in Russia and a profound spiritual exploration in India, all leading him to pursue his dream of a music career in the USA. The artist’s moniker holds a special significance as it pays homage to Goa, the birthplace of psychedelic trance, and reflects his deep connection with the genre.

His relocation to America, particularly during the Russia-Ukraine war, showcases his dedication to art above all else and his strong stand against the conflict. Despite financial challenges, Nexxus 604’s mission is gaining momentum as he navigates the music industry, even driving for Uber to support his creative endeavours.

Last Autumn, Nexxus released his debut EP, AUM, quickly followed by his sophomore outing Universal Language. Now he unveils his latest sonic exploration in the form of the new EP Free Your Consciousness, marking a significant chapter in his already impressive musical journey.

The two-track EP reflects Nexxus 604’s own journey, both geographically and musically. The artist emphasises breaking stereotypes and unlocking hidden talents, a sentiment that echoes his own daring move from Russia to America to leave his mark on the global electronic dance music scene. The construction of the EP is as fascinating as the music itself; the guitar tracks were laid down in Nexxus 604’s Burbank studio in Los Angeles while the remainder of the mixing and the album cover design occurred in Russia, creating a fusion of new influences and a nod to his roots.

Opened by title-track “Free Your Consciousness,” a spacey atmosphere takes hold as airy synth tones and bass drones build up with a vocal sample and rising drums. Launching into an energetic burst of uptempo psy-trance, the track takes you on a rollercoaster of punching beats, intense synth rolls and buzzing sonic textures.

The second track, “Psychedelic Dimension” delivers another exploration of Nexxus 604’s thrilling dance sound with a colourful arrangement of synths, thumping beats and processed vocal samples. Brimming with pure sonic energy and wrapped in slick sound design, his new EP lays down an energising and entirely enveloping sound that sees him continue to go from strength to strength with another stellar release.

Commenting on the release, he shares, “This album is an invitation to all who hear it to break free from their own confines, to challenge the stereotypes that bind them, and to pursue their deepest dreams with relentless passion. It stands as a symbol of what can be achieved when we dare to let go of our fears and step boldly towards our desires. Just as I ventured into the unknown to realise my potential.”
