plasticmag recently got a chance to catch up with London electronic music producer Lyndo. Having recently released his debut single ‘Peer Pressure’ on FLOE Records featuring remixes from D/R/U/G/S, Hurcx and Bloume, we wanted to find out what this new artist is planning next. You can check out his release below…
So hailing from London, what are your thoughts on the dance music scene in the Capital?
There’s such a wide and diverse scene here, every kind of music is being appreciated somewhere by a group of messy people. I also feel there’s a real sense of renaissance at the moment not only in the Capital but all across the world, a lot of style not only looking forward but taking influences from the roots of their style, and with dance music being at the forefront of popular music it is indeed an exciting time to live in.
How do you feel British producers differ from those in the USA?
I guess from my own experiences, the music from the USA at the moment is very much focused on the party situations, being loud and in your face. While here in the UK we seem to revel in the subtleties a lot more, it’s not always about slamming a tune in a crowd’s face as loud as you can, it’s about building a feeling. I like that.
What kind of message, if any, are you wishing to convey with your music?
To be honest, I’m not really sure! Often I’ll come up with an idea, put the initial idea down and work from that often completely changing it at some point. I guess the message I’m conveying would be; here is my music that I make and here is the music I love. I always aim to make something that sounds somewhat new and refreshing.
I feel a real feeling and message in music should be retained from full album releases where you can really tell a story throughout the release.
What artists have influenced your style the most?
A lot of my influence really depends how I feel on the given day, sometimes I’ll have a really techy day whilst other days I’ll feel disco or indie music. My Biggest influences for starting to make music would have to be people like Scuba, Laurent Garnier, Four Tet and Martyn, while I pick newer influences from producers like Jamie xx, George Fitzgerald and Dense & Pika but to be honest the list could be endless. Everyone makes great music and has great ideas.
Any notable releases recently?
Three huge albums this year have been getting non stop listening from me; In colour by Jamie xx, Claustrophobia by Scuba and Fading Love by George Fitzgerald. All amazing albums in their own ways and all telling really different stories of the artists’ previous year. Other fantastic releases from this year are Dusky‘s most recent EP, Ordinary World, Just by Bicep and the Lynn EP by Dense & Pika, that last one partly because they stole my last name but also I cant get enough of that duo!
I heard you managed to get to Creamfields festival, who’s sets did you manage to catch there?
I managed to catch so many great acts over the weekend, there were some I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed it like Eric Prydz and GRUM. The highlights for me though were George Fitzgerald and Skream, who really outdid themselves from the year before, Claude Von Stroke and Jamie Jones were all excellent. I think next year though I’m aiming to go to Bestival instead, if I manage both that’d be excellent though!
Do you draw any influences from day-to-day life?
If I do, it’s not something I even realise! Life’s going past far too fast to pick up influences at the moment, I just work and make music and drink in between the two. A sad life maybe, but I enjoy it.
What have you lined up for your music? Any upcoming releases?
Got the Caution to the Wind EP coming out very soon now, it’s in the finishing touches stage! And have a remix of Hurcx‘s soon to be released tune ‘Bloodshed’ in production at the moment! The original is gonna be fantastic – I love the song, it’s very dark! Apart from that after losing almost everything in a hard drive breaking, I’ve pretty much had to start anew on any new stuff which I’m looking at as being a blessing in disguise; a new EP is already in the making!
